Tokyo Disney Resort consistently ranks as one of the best-run theme park destinations in the world - exceptional service standards, unique rides built nowhere else, and seasonal events that justify return visits. This page covers everything you need to get through the gate and make the most of your day: which park to pick, how to buy tickets before they sell out, Premier Access strategy, and the fastest routes from central Tokyo.

Which Park: Disneyland or DisneySea?
The resort contains two parks on the same site in Urayasu, Chiba, about 15 minutes east of Tokyo Station.
Tokyo Disneyland follows the classic Magic Kingdom layout - seven themed lands including Adventureland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Headline attractions include Space Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Big Thunder Mountain, and the Beauty and the Beast Castle (2020). The park is family-friendly by design, with a higher proportion of rides suitable for young children.
Tokyo DisneySea is the main reason international visitors travel specifically to Japan for Disney. Its seven ports of call - from the detailed Mediterranean Harbour to Mysterious Island and Fantasy Springs - are built to a standard that has no equivalent elsewhere. Fantasy Springs (opened June 2024) added three new lands based on Frozen, Rapunzel, and Tinker Bell, and is now the park’s headliner. The DisneySea food scene is also significantly better than standard theme park fare.
Our recommendation: If you are visiting Japan specifically for this, DisneySea first. If you are travelling with children under eight, Disneyland first. If you have two days, do one park each.
Buying Tickets
Tokyo Disney Resort uses tiered pricing - the date you choose determines the price tier, and tickets must be purchased in advance. The gate does not sell same-day tickets.
1-Day Passport (2026 approximate pricing):
- Off-peak weekdays: from ¥7,900 (adults), ¥5,100 (junior 7–11), ¥2,700 (children 4–6)
- Standard weekends: from ¥9,900 (adults)
- Peak dates (Golden Week, Christmas/New Year): ¥10,900 (adults)
2-Day Passport:
- Covers one park per day over two days (consecutive or non-consecutive)
- From approximately ¥17,000 (adults) off-peak
Weekday Afternoon Passport:
- Entry from 15:00 only; from approximately ¥6,500 (adults)
- Good value if you are comfortable missing the morning - queues are shorter in the afternoon on quieter weekdays
International visitors often find the official app interface (which requires Japanese payment setup) difficult. Authorised third-party sellers handle the ticket purchase and deliver QR codes that scan directly at the gate.

Premier Access: How It Works
Premier Access replaced the old FastPass system. You purchase skip-the-queue access per attraction through the Tokyo Disney Resort app on the day of your visit - prices range from approximately ¥500 to ¥2,500 per person depending on the ride and the date.
Key Disneyland attractions: Beauty and the Beast (¥2,000–¥2,500), Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion
Key DisneySea attractions: Frozen Kingdom (¥2,000+), Soaring Fantastic Flight (¥2,000+), Toy Story Mania, Indiana Jones Adventure
Strategy: Purchases open at 08:00 on park day - before the gates open. Buy Premier Access for your top one or two priority rides as soon as the app allows. On quieter weekdays, standby queues for most attractions stay under 30 minutes without any Premier Access. On weekends and holidays, one or two Premier Access purchases save three to five hours of queuing.
Download the Tokyo Disney Resort app before you arrive. The English interface is available and shows real-time queue lengths, dining reservations, and parade schedules.
Getting to Tokyo Disney Resort
From Tokyo Station (recommended): JR Keiyo Line to Maihama Station - 15 minutes, ¥222. Maihama connects to the Disney Resort Line monorail (¥260 per ride or ¥700 for a day pass), which loops between the two parks and resort hotels.
From Shinjuku: JR Musashino Line to Maihama - approximately 40 minutes, ¥571.
From Shibuya: JR Yamanote Line to Tokyo Station, then Keiyo Line to Maihama - approximately 35–45 minutes total.
From Narita Airport: Narita Express to Tokyo Station, then Keiyo Line to Maihama - approximately 90 minutes total, around ¥3,200. The Airport Limousine Bus also runs direct (75–90 minutes, approximately ¥3,200).
From Haneda Airport: Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho, JR Yamanote to Tokyo Station, then Keiyo to Maihama - approximately 55 minutes total.
A pre-loaded Tokyo Metro pass handles the subway legs if you are combining the resort with other Tokyo sightseeing on the same trip.
Planning Your Day
Arrive at gate opening. The first 60–90 minutes are the lowest-crowd window of the day. Use this time for your highest-priority standby ride before the Premier Access queue builds.
Dining reservations: Table-service restaurants at both parks require advance booking through the app - 30 days before for day visitors, 90 days for resort hotel guests. Popular options at DisneySea (Magellan’s, Sakura) sell out well in advance on weekends. Counter service is available without booking.
Seasonal events are worth timing around: Disney Halloween (September–October, one of the only Disney parks globally where adults can wear costumes on designated dates), Disney Christmas (November–December, among the most elaborate Christmas theming of any park), and Disney Summer Festival (July–August).
What to bring: Comfortable shoes - expect 20,000–30,000 steps on a full day. Ponchos (cheaper from a convenience store the night before than inside the park). A portable fan in summer; layers in winter - the parks feel significantly colder than central Tokyo.
Where to Stay
Resort hotels (Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, DisneySea Hotel MiraCosta, Disney Ambassador Hotel) include early park entry and direct monorail access, with rates from approximately ¥20,000 to ¥120,000 per night.
Budget alternatives around Shin-Urayasu Station (10 minutes by taxi from Maihama) include APA Hotel Maihama and Vessel Inn Maihama, both in the ¥10,000–¥20,000 range. A short taxi from Shin-Urayasu (approximately ¥1,500) gives you the same early-morning start at a fraction of the cost.
