Japan Offers 60% Off Kyushu Travel From October 2026

Japan’s Tourism Agency launched the Kyushu Recovery Support Discount on 1 October 2026, covering all seven prefectures of Kyushu as a measure to restore tourism demand following disasters that affected the region earlier in the year. The campaign runs through December 2026, with discount rates varying by prefecture depending on the severity of impact.

Kumamoto and Kagoshima, which sustained significant damage, qualify for a 60% discount on accommodation and travel packages. The remaining five prefectures, Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, and Miyazaki, offer a 50% discount. International visitors are eligible provided they book through participating platforms.

How the Discounts Work

The discount applies to accommodation-only bookings and packages that include transport. Maximum savings are structured as follows:

  • Single-night accommodation-only or packages: up to 20,000 yen per person
  • Multi-night packages with transport (2 or more nights): up to 30,000 yen per person
  • Multi-prefecture tours covering two or more prefectures: up to 35,000 yen per person

Bookings for Fukuoka opened sequentially from 24 September, with stays eligible from 1 October through 15 December. Kumamoto bookings opened from 15 September, covering stays through 25 December. The availability of discounted inventory varies by platform and property, so early booking is advisable.

Why Travel to Kyushu Now

Autumn is one of Kyushu’s strongest seasons. Fukuoka brings the combination of one of Japan’s most accessible food scenes with reliable rail connections north to Honshu and south to Nagasaki and Kumamoto. Oita’s Beppu and Yufuin hot spring resorts are typically at their best in October and November, with cooler temperatures and the start of foliage colour. Kagoshima offers access to Yakushima Island and the active Sakurajima volcano, both of which see visitor numbers thin out considerably after the summer peak.

Kumamoto’s reconstruction following previous earthquake damage has largely been completed at Kumamoto Castle, with the main tower reopened and accessible to visitors for the first time in several years.

Booking Considerations for International Visitors

International visitors can use the discount through participating online travel agents and hotel booking platforms operating in Japan, including Jalan and Rakuten Travel. Some platforms require a Japanese mobile phone number for verification, so it is worth confirming eligibility before beginning the booking process. The Japan Tourism Agency has published an English-language FAQ on the discount structure via its official channels.
